French Japanesque Cabinet with shelves and four drawers in mapple sycamore and exotic woods. Decorated with carved wood, characters and flowers in mother of pearl and bone. Adorned by small "Chinese" patterns in gilt and silvered bronze.

Attributed to Gabriel-Frederic Viardot (1830-1904) French designer and cabinetmaker probably made for l’Escalier de Cristal - Paris
This Cabinet is a variation from referenced furnitures of Gabriel Viardot.
Notes
In France, Gabriel Viardot was with Edouard Lievre (1829-1886) and Emile Reiber (1826-1893), the house l’Escalier de Cristal or the house Alphonse Giroux one of the leading propagator and inventor of the Japonisme (Japanesque).
Many of his creations are in museums and major collections such as in France the Musee d'Orsay ((Inv. OAO 1652, 1653 et 1755), in the UK the Victoria & Albert Museum (Inv. W. 17-1971) and in the USA the Corning Museum of Glass, Corning-New York (Inv. 79.3.77)...
The famous Parisian luxury firm L'Escalier de Cristal had the exclusivity on several models of Viardot that they customized in their own workshops (P. Thiébaut).
Biographie
Gabriel-Frédéric Viardot (1830-1904), French designer and cabinetmaker.
In 1861 Gabriel Viardot took over the control of the family cabinet-making firm and was established in rue Rambuteau in Paris. In 1872 the firm moved to rue de Chaume, in 1878 rue des Archives and finally rue Amelot.
Viardot advertised as a "createur des meubles dans le genre chinois and japonais"
He successfully participated as an exhibitor and as a jury member in many international exhibitions such as:
- 1855, Exposition Universelle de Paris (Bronze Medal as wood sculptor)
- 1867, Exposition Universelle de Paris (4 Medals)
- 1878, Exposition Universelle de Paris (Silver Medal)
- 1885, Exposition Universelle d'Anvers (Gold Medal)
- 1889, Exposition Universelle de Paris (Gold Medal)
- 1900, Exposition Universelle de Paris (Gold Medal)...
